ZENRIN USA To Launch iAmerica Exit POI
San Francisco, CA. – ZENRIN USA, Inc. announced today the upcoming release of their much anticipated iPhone application called iAmerica EXIT POI.
This application includes all travel related businesses and services within a quarter mile of every Interstate freeway exit in the U.S.
It enables users to view Points of Interest (POIs) at Interstate exits, calculate distance to the POIs, search by business names, and other useful features such as to plan ahead stops along a route.
Each POI lists the business name, address and phone number. It even allows one touch calling to the businesses being displayed.
Attribute information for each POI is listed when applicable, such as whether RV or truck parking is available, if the business is open 24 hours, if a gas station sells diesel or has a convenience store attached, if a fast food joint has a children’s play area, or what type of cuisine is offered at a restaurant.
The iAmerica app contains over 130,000 POIs in the following categories:
- Gas
- Lodging
- Food
- Auto Service
- Convenience Store
- ATM
- Grocery Store
- Pharmacy
- Truck Stop
- Campground
- National / State Park
- Medical
One of the very useful functions included is the ability to “favorite” a POI. When the user approaches an exit where one or more of the user’s favorite POIs are located, the exit marker on the iPhone is highlighted orange and the iPhone will chime to alert you to the fact.
This app is very useful for anyone who travel on US Interstates.
The book version of this data named Exit Authority (and later renamed Exit Source) was very popular with RVers and truckers for many years until they stopped publishing it. It was sold through Zenrin’s subsidiary company Interstate America. The books sold at most truckstops and online for $24.95.
As of today, Zenrin is offering FREE downloads of single interstate versions of this app through Apple’s iTunes store. This offer will end January 31st, 2010. The versions available are for the following Interstates: i5, i95, i80, and i-280 (California).
